Nakee

An 18-minute animated short built on fieldwork in Nakhon Phanom, Nong Khai and Udon Thani into the art, culture and beliefs of the Mekong River basin. In a village dying of drought, Kraw, the headman’s daughter, befriends a small Naga and follows it into the underworld, where she must face a far greater serpent to bring back the rain. Developed under the research project The Journey of Kankraw, supported by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT).

Bua Tong

A 3D animated short from the research project Animation design through influences of Lanna applied art. Bua Tong, a young woman, keeps a household spirit, the Phi Ka, that gives her beauty in return for food, until her own greed pulls her into the spirit’s world. Fieldwork in a northern lantern-making village shaped the film: Lanna lanterns light the way that leads her home. Supported by the Thailand Research Fund (TRF) and the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT). Produced by Wisit Supangkaratana; research by Wisit Supangkaratana, Chakrapipat Assawaboonyalert, Martsamrit Pasupa and Duanghathai Sotthisaowaphak; animated with Media Arts students Apinunt Tieowsuwan, Sutakorn Sameenoi and Supakorn Charoenwattanachai, with Roengrit Ekwonganan and Narin Pluempreedaporn; sound design by Martsamrit Pasupa. Ramavatar: Murals Brought to Life

A feature animation that brings the Ramakien murals of the Temple of the Emerald Buddha to life, built from more than 40,000 mural photographs and khon movement. Child’s Lane was one of six animation studios on the production, supported by the Ministry of Culture.
